Group Voice Class

I have taught voice for years, and I can say people want to sing for many reasons.  Some want to sing on Broadway one day while others just want to sing a song or two on a karaoke night.  Some want to sing something special for their loved one on their wedding day and some are just trying to move past a personal fear or phobia.  I have taught a dad who wanted to feel comfortable singing and playing guitar in front of his children and a professor who wanted to learn to project his voice for public speaking.  There is no one reason to want to learn how to sing, but everyone can!  I have seen it happen time and time again.

I know.  I am sure you have heard that statement before and are probably thinking that you are the least musical person you know.  Perhaps, you have even been told at some point by someone that you cannot sing.  I am here to tell you that this is simply not true.  As a child, I was excessively shy.  I knew I loved to sing, but I struggled for years with confidence and stage fright.  I had to force myself to audition for solos in choir or for a musical.  It was painful, but I learned something that I would like to share with you.  Singing is a skill, not a talent.  It requires dedication and hard work, but it can be learned and it is fun!  I am proof of that.

So you know you want to sing, but how do you start?  Private lessons are an option, but you may decide you are not ready for that just yet.  This class is a great first step because you will learn side-by-side with others who share those same fears and nerves that you do.  We will cover the basics of healthy technique such as how to breathe and how to project your voice.  We will discover the difference between chest and head voice and how to move between them.  What is a glottal and how will it help my singing?  I will show you!  Have you ever thought you couldn’t sing an art song in Italian?  You will!  And you will learn so much about your voice by doing it.   We can then take those skills to more contemporary songs if that is your pleasure!  With these basics, you can have fun singing whenever and whatever you like.

Singing and teaching is my greatest joy and my life’s work, and I would love to help you begin your own journey.  So come and take that first step!
